The Village Roots

The Village Pathways

The Village Pathways

As children enter this stage of their journey, they begin to grow deeper roots and start exploring who they are, how they learn, and how they belong in community.

The Village Roots layer nurtures independence, critical thinking, and emotional awareness through hands-on learning, creative projects, and meaningful contribution to daily life at The Village.

Learners are encouraged to follow curiosity, engage in real-world problem solving, and begin to understand the balance between freedom and responsibility.

Through stewardship, art, and inquiry, they learn that education is not only about what you know, but how you live and connect.

The Village Pathways

The Village Pathways

The Village Pathways

The Pathways Layer is where learners begin to step into their gifts and passions. They walk their unique learning path through apprenticeships, mentorship, and experiential projects that bridge practical life skills with personal growth.

Whether tending the land, designing creative ventures, exploring science through the elements, or studying human stories, youth learn by doing.  Guided by mentors who help them uncover their inner compass.

Pathways are about purpose, practice, and presence. Supporting youth in becoming capable, compassionate, and conscious young adults.

The Village Compass

The Village Pathways

The Village Compass

The Compass layer invites young adults, mentors, and community members to align their inner direction with purposeful action. This is a space for co-creation, entrepreneurship, leadership, and expression.

Where emerging adults and collaborators bring their ideas to life through projects, teaching, and service.

Through shared work, reflection, and collaboration, participants learn to navigate life with clarity and authenticity.

The Compass honors community contribution as education, guiding individuals to live their purpose while uplifting the whole.

This layer embodies the essence of the Village mindset the circle of learning where every age teaches, learns, and grows together.

The Village Roots

The Little Beans Under 3

 “A home away from home.”

Philosophy:

Our youngest children are tenderly nurtured in a loving, safe, and an intuitive environment. We create a "home away from home," where each child is cared for by many, and the village becomes their extended family. Here, connection to nature is key and the children play outdoors daily, listening to birdsong, touching trees, and feeling rooted in the earth.

Focus Areas:

  • Secure attachment and belonging
  • Sensory exploration through nature
  • Gentle socialization and rhythm
  • Emotional expression through connection and play
  • Multi-age presence: younger siblings or visiting older peers inspire natural connections

The Wildflowers 3.8 to 6 years

“Curious minds, open hearts, helpful hands and mindful feet.”

Philosophy:

This early childhood phase emphasizes interest-led exploration, play, and gentle independence. Children are immersed in daily life skills, storytelling, and seasonal rhythms. They are guided to feel their emotions, name them, and learn how to be in community.

Focus Areas:

  • Life skills: dressing, preparing food, tidying
  • Connection to earth through seasonal activities
  • Emotional literacy and regulation through storytelling and role-play
  • Social learning in mixed-age environments
  • Circle connections, creative movement, and mindful transitions

The Trailblazers 7 to 10 years

“Learning by doing, growing by being and building a sense of self.”

Philosophy:

This bridge group transitions from play-based to purposeful learning. Still interest-based, learning becomes more intentional through projects, story-rich academics, and a strong sense of autonomy. The foundation of holistic interconnectedness—between self, others, and the earth—is strengthened.

Focus Areas:

  • Hands-on numeracy and early literacy through storytelling, games, and nature
  • Environmental stewardship: gardens, composting, animal care
  • Emotional and social learning through real-life experiences
  • Nature journaling, creative arts, and circle dialogues

Mentored and in Collaboration with The Village Pathways

The Village pathways

The Pathfinders 10–12 years

“Guided by passion, learning for life and meaningful intentions”

Philosophy:

Children in this stage begin deep self-discovery and project-based, self-directed learning. They integrate academic disciplines into real-world contexts and develop skills through experiences in nature, the arts, and the community. We emphasize lifelong learning habits and emotional maturity.

Focus Areas:

  • Literacy, math, and science integrated into interest-based projects
  • Long-term nature studies, experiments, and field work
  • Peer-to-peer collaboration and mixed-age mentorship
  • Emotional self-awareness, communication, and reflection
  • Artisan skills: woodworking, weaving, cooking, permaculture

The Wayfinders 13 and up

“Self-mastery through community and conscious contribution.”

Philosophy:

Our teens are co-creators of their educational path. With support, they design a learning journey that reflects their passions and future goals.

Village Kinships allow them to embody responsibility, independence, and contribution to the whole village.

Focus Areas:

  • Self-designed learning paths with mentorship
  • Real-life application of literacy, numeracy, and scientific thinking
  • Entrepreneurial projects and cooperative enterprises
  • Teaching and guiding younger children as mentors
  • Personal discipline, emotional intelligence, and global awareness

By tuning into each child’s unique needs, rhythms, and strengths, our guides create experiences that honor individual growth while fostering curiosity, creativity, and emotional intelligence.

Holistic practices integrate nature, movement, art, and reflection, helping children develop resilience, self-awareness, and a deep connection to the world around them. Intuitive teaching allows learning to flow naturally, encouraging children to explore, question, and co-create knowledge in ways that feel meaningful and joyful.

Together, these practices cultivate confident, compassionate, and self-directed learners who are prepared to navigate life with curiosity, empathy, and purpose.

That they are woven into the fabric of their community, the natural world, and the living planet. This understanding fosters empathy, compassion, and responsibility, as children see how their actions impact others, the earth, and future generations.

By embracing interconnectedness, students learn collaboration, respect, and resilience, cultivating a sense of belonging and purpose that nurtures both personal growth and the wellbeing of the wider world. In this way, interconnectedness is not just a concept.

It is a guiding principle that shapes how our children think, act, and relate to life itself.
